We're getting off to a start at Sonoran Glass School (SGS)\, one of Tucson's premier arts and culture nonprofits\, as we celebrate the arrival of their new Executive Director Melanie Morgan!\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us this evening for local eats\, networking and the opportunity to participate in a variety of hands-on glass blowing activities all curated by Tim Sweeney and SGS' expert instructors. With Valentine's Day right around the corner\, this is the perfect opportunity to find (or make!) a perfect\, customized gift for your loved one(s).\n\n\n\n\nWho are Local First business mixers for? Everyone! These events aren't limited to people that work for local businesses or nonprofits\, they're also great for emerging young professionals and community members that care about supporting local businesses. If you're new to networking or\, could use some tips on how to maximize your time at this event reach out to our Tucson-based team and we'd be happy to help.\n\n Is there a cost to attend the event? No. Local First mixers are free!\n\n Will there be food? Yes! El Golden Taco will be catering this event. Light bites will be provided.\n\nWhat can I expect? Sonoran Glass School has offered to curate a variety of activities for attendees. Those wishing to participate can find details (and pricing) below. You'll have the opportunity to connect with local business and community leaders as well as sample a limited number of offerings from our host.\n\nA limited number of slots will be offered for the following:\n\n\n \n Making Suncatchers: eight slots at 6:30\, eight slots at 7:30\n $30 per participant\n The suncatcher is a one-hour introduction to exploring creativity in glass fusing. Learn to safely cut colored glass into the shapes and sizes you want under the guidance of an instructor. Then assemble your design on a clear 4x4 in. sheet of glass. We will fuse your colorful design in a kiln\, making it one smooth piece.\n \n Making Flowers: two slots at 6:30\, two slots at 7:00\, two slots at 7:30\, two slots at 8:00\n\n \n \n $40 per participant\n \n \n Our flower is a 15-minute introduction to furnace glassblowing in our Hot Shop. You will choose the color and style of your piece and then assist an instructor in making it.\n \n \n \n \n Making Tumblers: two slots at 6:30\, two slots at 7:10\, two slots at 7:50\n\n \n \n $40 per participant\n \n \n The tumbler is a 20-25 minute introduction to furnace glassblowing. You'll use the blowpipe to take your gathered glass and reheat it at the hole as needed. Then\, you'll blow air into the blowpipe and use tools to shape the glass. You may take a more active or passive role based on your comfort level.\n \n \n \n\n\nImportant! Glass pieces created during the evening will not be available for pickup immediately.
